What Is Anulom Vilom 



Anulom Vilom Pranayama is one of the the best pranayama or breathing exercise . Anulom Vilom is alternate nostril breathing .
It is used in the practice of Hatha Yoga . Anulom Vilom is very similar to the Nadi Shodhana . Anulom Vilom Pranayama involves inhalation , retention and exhalation . But for beginners anulom vilom should be practiced without holding of breathe . Remember that the duration or gap between inhalation and exhalation is depend on the capacity of practitioner . If you are starter then keep the less gap between inhalation and exhalation . So it would be easy for a beginner to do anulom vilom . Later with continuous practice you can manage gap between exhalation and exhalation according to your own capacity .

In Anulom Vilom Pranayama breathing is done only through one nostril of your nose . During this process the other nostril is closed using your fingers or thumb . The thumb is used to close the right nostril and the ring finger is used to close the left nostril . 




Anulom Vilom Pranayama needs care when you can do it . Also remember that do not increase the gap between inhalation and exhalation beyond your limits . Anulom Vilom Pranayama should only done with an empty stomach . If you can do Anulom Vilom in the evening then it is important to do it at least with gap of 4 hours after eating the food . In hot temperature also avoid to do anulom vilom pranayama because in hot temperature air is also hot it will not give any benifits but cause harm . Also retention of breathe can increase the body temperature so it should necessary to do anulom vilom in cool climate .

The best time to do anulom vilom is morning . In morning time it is cool climate , all around of us is a new energy , the chirpping of birds  makes our mind cool . In morning on the earth there is born new life energy and if we want to transfer this energy from the earth to inside us then the only way is Yogic activities . Yogic Activities is way that connects us to new created energy of earth .

Procedure / Steps To do Anulom Vilom Pranayama :-

  • First of all , you need to sit in a comfortable cross legged position in a healthy environment .
  • Close the right nostril with your right thumb .
  • Now inhale deeply through the left nostril .
  • Now close the left nostril with the ring finger of your right hand as you release the right nostril .
  • Exhale slowly through your right nostril .
  • Keeping the left nostril closed , inhale deeply through your right nostril .
  • Seal the right nostril again with your thumb , then release the left nostril .
  • Exhale out of the left nostril . You should now be in the original position , with the thumb sealing the right nostril .
  • Finally repeat the process ten to eleven times gradually increasing the number of repetitions .
  • Once you gain full breathe control during Nadi Shodhana , begin to hold your breathe for a moment at the top and bottom of each inhale/exhale cycle . Never strain ; let this next stage develop gradually .
It is very necessary to do anulom vilom in a right and proper way . If you can not do this pranayama in proper way then it is not benificial for anybody who can do it in a wrong way . Do all the exercises in a proper way then these exercises will give benifits to all of the them who does it properly .
